Portrait Photography in Natural Light

Portrait Photography in Natural Light

Sunday 25 August
Newtown Linford - 10am - 2 Hours
Anthony Tanton
Working with natural light is an essential skill for any photographer. Natural Light is free, and almost always readily available - in the daytime at least.

This session will focus on the creative aspect of portrait photography, but there will be technical aspects like balancing settings, colour temperature for different light, and how to orient subjects in different light for the best results.

In this session we will be acting as models for each other, and taking it in turns to photograph and be photographed, but this is less scary than it sounds, I promise! Being on the other side of the camera will give you a feel for what your subjects are feeling themselves, and help you dial in your direction and communication for when it 2019s your turn behind the camera.

We 2019ll be looking at where to start with posing and discuss prompting to help you guide your subject to where you want them. The bulk of this class will be capturing portraits. We 2019ll go through images at each point, and discuss what 2019s working for you, and where you need direction.

We'll be using each other in the session as models, but don't worry, you don't need to dress up! Come comfy, and be ready to have fun on the other side of the camera for a few minutes.

Long Exposure Photography Meetup

Sunday 22 September
Newtown Linford - 10am - 2 Hours

Long exposure - keeping the shutter open for a long time, this might mean something as short as 1/5th of a second, it could mean a whole 30 seconds! It's a range. And we'll be exploring the effects of this range in this session.

We'll be looking at how to correctly expose your image, the math that's involved if you're that way inclined, and what sort of shutter speed might work in what scenarios.

So in this class we will be looking at a few different techniques of how to capture those sunsets so you never have to load up your sunset photos and feel disapointed ever again.

We'll be looking at a few different techniques such as HDR, Timelapsing, exposing for the highlights, and silhouetting.

HDR High Dynamic Range Exposure Bracketing

HDR High Dynamic Range Exposure Bracketing

Saturday 30 November
Newtown Linford - 4pm - 2 Hours
Anthony Tanton
Starting from the basics, this class will focus on how to take multiple images and then blend them into one final image. This is an essential skill for landscape, architecture, and interiors - and can be used in many other areas, even portraiture if you're patient enough!HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, so meaning there are a lot of values between the darkest and brightest parts of the final image. This allows you to have an image where ALL of the image is exposed correctly. Like when you're trying to photograph a sunset, but you have to choose which part is exposed correctly, the sunset, or the landscape. Perhaps photographing interiors you can't balance the outside in the windows, with the inside. We'll be going over how to manage these situations.

We will be looking at three techniques to explore the behaviour of light during the golden hour. Backlighting is great for nature shots when the sun is low in the sky. Bokeh is Japanese for blur but is a term used for soft out of focus balls of light which can look very pleasing. Burst in this case is star burst which can be achieved when you have strong areas of light and a correct choice of aperture. Use all three to create some amazing compositions.

    Title or Location: Oregon Coast
I had the pleasure of traveling to the Oregon Coast for a photo workshop. This is one of many shots I took while there, This is a blue hour blend where I took one photo right after sunset and another photo from the same spot hours later to capture the night sky then blended the 2 together. Thanks for looking!

This morning was not very promising, but still I was determined to get out and take pictures! Headed to Sunny Sands and found these two rocks in the sand that caught my interest. The tide was rising and the sun started glowing in the sky! "Perfect moment", and the a wave caught me by surprise and made my feet soaking wet! Apparently sign of good luck, and maybe so, it's one of my best images and was definitely worth it!

I had been out of photography for a few years, and was just getting back into it when my brother and I took a trip to the eastern Sierra for fall colors in October 2017. We had been out all day when we returned to McGee Creek during the late afternoon. A had set up my camera and tripod to get a long exposure shot of leaves on a rock in the creek, when I looked to my right and saw another great image. I realized that my "eye" had returned, and I was exhilarated! Rock with aspen leaf, McGee Cr

?This past Father?s Day I went to a family farm cidery with my oldest daughter. The drinks were good, the company was great, but the best part was the farm?s commitment to keeping wild, native plants for pollinators. This little bee found a delicious clover and I got this macro shot.?
