Beginner's Photography Class

Beginner's Photography Class

Saturday 23 March
Thurmaston, Leicester - 10am - 3 Hours
Anthony Tanton
IF you've ever felt confused by your camera, the jargon people use in photography, or you're just picking up your first camera, this is the perfect place to find your next steps and be guided through your first few.

We'll be talking about photography in general, going over key concepts like exposure, the exposure triangle, tackling camera settings and modes, and much more!

When I first picked up a camera I remember being SO confused by all of the jargon, I couldn't get my head around what a 'crop factor' was on my camera, I didn't understand what ISO was, or why my images weren't sharp. We'll be solving all of those problems together, and going over some exercises to help you learn your camera and photography as a whole.

Natural Light Portrait Photography

Natural Light Portrait Photography

Saturday 06 April
Abbey Park Rd - 10am - 2 Hours
Anthony Tanton
Working with natural light is an essential skill for any photographer. Natural Light is free, and almost always readily available - in the daytime at least.

We'll be going over the basics of positioning the light to give depth and flattering light, discussing how different light means different positioning may work better, we'll look at the technical camera aspects to balance the light, and briefly discuss editing, we'll talk about setting up your subject, communicating with your subject, and the starting points of how to pose and prompt your subject for the image you want.

We will be taking turns to work as the model for one another - this isn't as much pressure as it sounds, promise!

By being on the other side of the camera for a short time you get a feel for what your own subjects will be thinking, how the direction sounds for them, and help you to improve your own communication and even empathy - all of this creates a better image in the end!

We'll be using each other in the session as models, but don't worry, you don't need to dress up! Come comfy, and be ready to have fun on the other side of the camera for a few minutes.

Beginner's Photography Class

Beginner's Photography Class

Sunday 14 April
Newtown Linford - 10am - 3 Hours
Anthony Tanton
This will be a more practical look at photography - we're going to be out in the world, not in a coffee shop for this one!

We'll be talking about getting out of Auto and taking control of your camera.

We're going to start by looking at the priority settings, and discussing some photography lingo like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO - Also known as the exposure triangle. We'll be talking about the effects each one of these settings has on the image, and how to use them to create certain looks and feels to your images.

From there, if we're feeling brave, we'll venture into full auto mode, or stick to one of the priority modes depending on where you're at in your journey, and we'll be discussing the starting points of composition. From using the rule of thirds, to picking a subject, and how to draw the eye through an image. We'll talk some more lingo like leading lines and framing, and give you the tools to take photos you're proud of.

If we have time, we can start to talk about the applications on your camera that are a little more advanced, things like burst mode and when to use is, continuous versus single focus, perhaps even white balance!

This class will focus on the first steps to taking photos you're in full control of, and will give you the tools to continue on your photography journey no matter what stage you're at right now, be it you've only just openned up the box and put the lens on your camera for the first time, or if you're quite happy shooting in Shutter Priority right now. There will be something for you here.

Introduction to Digital Editing

Saturday 27 April
Google Meet - 10am - 2 Hours

In this class we will be talking about how to edit those amazing images you have taken to get the very best from them. Get your images ready for printing, framing and hanging on the wall, or posting to your socials to show off your skills to everyone you know.

You will be sent out the images we'll be editing ahead of the session, so you can edit along with me and see it all in real time, or follow along with the screen share if you're of the note taker type.

There will be images for you to edit yourselves and share with the group in turn, so we'll be looking at what your editing style looks like.

I will be editing using Lightroom, but you can edit with whatever you use, whether that's Capture One or Apple Photos. There will be something for you here.

We'll be looking at all of the basic exposure sliders, Presence, editing colour from the basics through to individual HSL.

We'll also be looking at how to create more depth and contrast in your images to draw the eye to a certain point, make your subject pop, and other more intermediate techniques to give your photos that little extra finishing touch.
