New Year, New Skills: Beginner's Photography Class
Saturday 25 January
Abbey Park Rd - 10am - 3 Hours
Anthony Tanton
You've got yourself a camera - or you've dusted off one you've had for a little while and you'd like to know how to take better photos with it. This is the class for you.First up we'll discuss a little bit about your camera, what the dials and buttons on each camera do. We'll talk a little bit about why your images are really bright or really dark, and then we'll add in a bit of the photo lingo like Aperture, ISO, and Shutter speed. We'll discuss some priority modes if your camera has them, and what lenses you're using.Mostly we're going to focus on composition, and getting settings to work for you. This is a class designed to get your more comfortable with a camera in your hands, and taking more photos than before, and hopefully you like them a little better too.
Getting out of Auto, Guide to Priority Modes, The Exposure Triangle, & Shooting in full Manual
Saturday 15 February
Newtown Linford - 10am - 3 Hours
Anthony Tanton
Teaching you how to fully control your images for correct exposure and some artistic expression and flare! We'll be starting out by looking at what your camera can do, and how you can make the camera do some of the work for you, while you still get to create the look you want.
Once we understand the two main settings for artistic expression, we'll talk about the exposure triangle - Aperture, Shutter Speed, and the third item we have been ignoring, ISO.
Once we understand the effect that Aperture and Shutter Speed can have on an image, and how we can use that to create a specific look, we'll add in ISO, and switch out to full manual.
The goal of this class is to teach you how to create the image you're looking for, getting proper exposure, what the main settings on your camera do, how to use those settings to control the image, and hopefully give you the ability and confidence to start shooting in manual mode more often.
Macro Photography Meetup
Sunday 23 February
Bradgate Rd., Newtown Linford - 10am - 2 Hours
Anthony Tanton
Macro Photography is about the little details, from the texture of a single blade of grass, to the layers in a dandelion.
To capture the details we typically get very close, and make small things big, we might use very specialised equipment.
We'll be focusing on the principles of macro photography, techniques we can use, and how to best use equipment you have available, so that when you have a subject like insets and small flying creatureas, you're ready to go!
We will briefly discuss the use of lighting equipment to emphasise and assist macro photography.
WWC (Walk with Camera)

Bring along your cameras, a coffee, and something to ask about!
Digital Editing
Saturday 05 April
Google Meet - 10am - 2 Hours
Anthony Tanton
Capturing images is only half the work, and far too often we neglect to work on our editing and post processing skills to the same degree as we work on our skills with the camera. This class aims to give you the skills and knowledge to feel confident in photo editing software to create final images that are ready to be printed and displayed or shared on socials. We'll be going over how to import images, what is a preset, the function of the basic panels within Lightroom, how to edit lighting, colour, cropping and levelling, and more advanced techniques like dodging and burning, masking, and most importantly, how to export and save your edited images.I'll send out some test images so we can edit them together, if you have your own images you'd like to ask about please feel free, as always there will be time for questions throughout.
